Muni University Library has few laptops for student use. The laptops can be checked out only by registered Muni University students with current student Identification Card (ID), and who read, agree to, and sign the Library Laptop Loan Agreement. The user’s ID must be presented to the ICT circulation staff each time a laptop is borrowed. The Library Laptop Loan Agreement must be read and signed at the beginning of the academic year. Under no circumstance will a user be allowed to check out a laptop for another person.
Check out
- Laptops may be checked out at the Library ICT Circulation Desk during library hours.
- Laptops must be returned in person thirty minutes before the library closes regardless of the amount of time left on the loan (Refer to the library operational hours). Users shall be required to wait so that library staff can verify the borrowed device. Once the staff member has verified that the laptop is in the same condition as when it was lent, they will check it in.
- One laptop per user will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis.
- The loan period for a laptop is during the library working hours.
- Users cannot choose which laptop they receive.
- Accessories are checked out with each laptop (Charger, power cord, and Bag).
- Please ask library staff for advice on using the laptop.
- It is the user’s responsibility to visually inspect the laptop when it is checked out. The Library staff will note the damage so that the user will not be charged for it.
- Defective equipment should be reported immediately and returned to the ICT Circulation Desk.
- The person who checks out the laptop is responsible for its safe return in good condition and the user bears full responsibility for damage to the laptop due to neglect, abuse, loss or physical damage. LAPTOPS SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT UNATTENDED. The Library assumes no responsibility if the laptop is stolen while checked out to a user.
Fines and Liability
- The overdue fine for a laptop and its accessories is UGX 10,000 per day.
- The user that checks out the laptop is held financially responsible for damage to, loss of, or theft of the laptop.
- The replacement cost of a damaged, lost, stolen laptop or its accessories (Laptop bag, Power cord) is equal to the market price/cost and administrative charges. The damaged laptop or accessory will be given to the user upon replacement.
Limitations on Use
- Users must not tamper with the hardware or software already installed on the laptop. The Library reserves the right to charge a fee for repair of any malfunction of the laptop caused by the user.
- The laptops are to be used for academic purposes.
Responsibilities
- Muni University Library assumes no responsibility for files and software stored on the hard drive or the recovery of files accidentally left in the hard drive after the laptop has been returned.
- Muni University Library is not responsible for any computer viruses that may be transferred to or from external storage solutions such as USB pen drives used by the user.
- Muni University Library will not be responsible for any personal media e.g. CDs, DVDs returned with the laptop by mistake.
Enforcement of the guidelines
- Enforcement of these rules will be conducted in a fair and reasonable manner.
- Library staff and/or security staff will intervene to stop prohibited activities and behaviours.
- Violations could also result in the restriction and/or termination of Library privileges, including the use of other Library information resources and equipment.
